Manchester United winger, Antony is currently pursuing legal action against his previous club, Ajax, regarding what he claims to be unlawful fines imposed before his transfer to Old Trafford in 2022.
During his final days at Ajax, Antony missed several training sessions and a league match despite being fit to play. This was before Manchester United finalized an impressive £85.5 million deal for him.
At the time, Ajax’s then-coach, Alfred Schreuder, emphasized the need for players to be fully committed to the club, noting the complexity of Antony’s situation.
According to reports, Antony became aware of deductions from his salary only after his transfer was completed. Sources indicate that the total fines he is contesting could amount to several hundred thousand euros. The Dutch National Football Association’s arbitration committee has confirmed that the case began recently in Zeist, with further rulings typically expected within a month of the initial hearing.
Antony has faced challenges in making a significant impact at Manchester United since his arrival, with his debut goal in a 3-1 victory against Arsenal followed by just 11 goals across all competitions over the last three seasons. His sole goal this season was during a 7-0 triumph against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
Under the management of Erik ten Hag and then Ruben Amorim, he has sought to rebuild his performance levels and secure a regular spot in the lineup.
Reports are linking him with potential loan moves away from Manchester United, with his agent, Junior Pedroso, confirming interest from various clubs. Pedroso noted that a loan could be beneficial for Antony to gain more playing time and regain his form if the club deems it appropriate.
Interest has been expressed by Greek side Olympiacos and LaLiga team Real Betis, indicating several options on the table for the forward as he aims to forge a successful path forward in his career.
