Top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State have urged party members to come together and speak with a unified voice as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a stakeholdersโ meeting organized by the Diadem, a group of technocrats within the PDP, the leaders emphasized the need for unity to restore the partyโs strength in Lagos.
The event, held in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA, celebrated Nigeriaโs 64th Independence Day and focused on mobilizing 100,000 โorganic membersโ for the party.
Titled โIdeological Democracy as Against Palliative & Deceptive Politics,โ the gathering was the first of its kind by any political group in the LGA, according to Dayo Kayode, the convener and aviation expert.
Kayode stressed that the party must prioritize unity, setting aside personal interests to strengthen the PDP in Lagos. He noted, โWe must unite, we must speak with one voice as we approach 2027.โ
Kayode further explained that the event aimed to celebrate Nigeriaโs Independence and rally support for PDP across Lagos wards, noting that the group intends to register 100,000 new members.
Bolaji Akinyemi, a keynote speaker, highlighted issues hindering Nigeriaโs progress, such as corruption, weak leadership, and electoral fraud.
Calling for systemic change, Akinyemi recommended reverting to Nigeriaโs 1963 Republican Constitution as a solution, describing it as the only foundational document reflecting โthe peopleโsโ will.
The PDP Chairman in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA, Muftau Oyelekan, and Alimoshoโs Isiaka Shodiya echoed the call for unity, urging Nigerians to consider PDP in 2027. Shodiya emphasized, โWe need people who want to vote based on conscience, not money.โ
As the event concluded, PDP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to mobilizing strong support across Lagos and strengthening the partyโs foundation ahead of the next electoral cycle.
