The Nigeria Police Force has given an update on the tending issue regarding a member of the House of Representatives, Alexander Ikwegh, and an e-hailing cab driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.

The Police, in a statement on Monday, said the driver has officially reported the incident at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.

It added that the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police is handling the case and also urged members of the public to avoid using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others.

The statement reads: โ€œThe Nigeria Police Force is aware of the incident between a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, which took place on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja.

โ€œThe FCT Command is actively handling the case following Mr. Abuwatseyaโ€™s official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.

โ€œThe Police Force also urges the public to refrain from using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others, as such actions undermine the values of impartiality that the IGPโ€™s office upholds.โ€

OsunDailyNG recalls a video of the lawmaker assaulting a Bolt driver during the delivery of a package to him at his residence in Maitama, Abuja, has gone viral online.

The driver had filmed the altercation between him and the Reps member representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, prompting various reactions from Nigerians online.

The lawmaker repeatedly slapped and insulted the driver for telling him to come out and get the snail the driver was meant to deliver to him.

In the footage, Ikwechegh insisted that the request was disrespectful given his social status while threatening to make the driver โ€œdisappearโ€ without facing any consequences.

When the driver requested the delivery fee, the politician slapped him multiple times, querying the driver if he knew who he was talking to.

Realizing he was being filmed, Ikwechegh dared the driver to film him properly and call the Inspector General of Police.
