The potential rematch between IBF world heavyweight boxing champion Daniel Dubois and former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua seems to be gaining momentum, with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, hinting at a tentative date in February.
Alalshikh revealed this during the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol press conference on Saturday night, confirming that a major fight card is in the works to showcase a showdown between rival promoters Queensberry and Matchroom.
He expressed excitement about the prospect of big fights and determining the best fighters in each division, mentioning the involvement of top names like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
โSee in February again Queensberry against Matchroom, 5 vs. 5, we will finish it maybe this week with a big surprise, and then letโs see the result about this fight, the result of the big fight December 21, [Oleksandr] Usyk-Tyson [Fury],โ Alalshikh told Sky Sports.
โJoshua, Dubois, Tyson, Usyk, everyone, everyone on the line.
โThis is what we want. We want the big fights and to see whoโs really the best fighter in each division.โ
Following Joshuaโs unexpected defeat to Dubois, there has been speculation about his future in the sport. However, Joshua has expressed his determination to continue boxing, and his promoter has confirmed that the rematch will be part of the Riyadh Season, a festival of entertainment and sports events running from October to early March.
Both Frank Warren, Duboisโ promoter, and Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, have welcomed the potential rematch.
