Premier League club, Nottingham Forest have been fined £750,000 by the English Football Association for bringing the game into disrepute.
This penalty was imposed on Nottingham Forest after the club expressed concerns regarding the integrity of a match official following their defeat to Everton in the previous season.
The dispute arose when Nottingham Forest raised objections about three penalty decisions that were made against them during their 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on 21st April 2024.
The club’s social media post, which was made approximately five minutes after the conclusion of the match at Goodison Park, voiced their dissatisfaction with the three penalty decisions that were not given in their favour.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the Key Match Incident Panel, an independent panel responsible for reviewing match decisions after each round of Premier League fixtures, found that Nottingham Forest should have been awarded a penalty for a challenge by Ashley Young on Callum Hudson-Odoi in the 55th minute of the game.
Despite the club’s denial of questioning the integrity of the officials or bringing the game into disrepute, an independent commission ruled against them. The commission also highlighted the lack of genuine remorse displayed by Nottingham Forest in their response to the situation.
In response to the “extremely disappointing” decision, Nottingham Forest has expressed their intention to appeal the ruling, deeming it to be “wholly disproportionate.”
