The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of German coach, Bruno Labbadia, as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeriaโs senior menโs national football team.
This announcement was made via the NFFโs official X handle (formerly Twitter) early Tuesday morning, following approval from the federationโs Executive Committee.
In a statement released by the General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the decision to hire Labbadia came after the Technical and Development Sub-Committee recommended the German tactician for the role.
The statement reads, โThe NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.โ
However, specific details about his contract duration, salary, and performance expectations were not disclosed.
The Super Eagles coaching position has been vacant since Finidi George stepped down after briefly managing the team following the exit of Jose Peseiro.
The Super Eagles are preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, with upcoming matches against Benin Republic on September 7 in Uyo and Rwanda three days later in Kigali.
The appointment of Labbadia, known for his coaching stints with several Bundesliga clubs, marks a significant shift in the NFFโs quest to secure consistent and high-quality leadership for the national team as they aim for a successful AFCON campaign and World Cup qualification.
