Bayelsa United coach Ladan Bosso and Enugu Rangers handler Fidelis Ilechukwu have both denied that they are being considered for the Super Eagles assistant coaching job.
The Super Eagles are set to secure a new head coach ahead of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda in September.
Reports have suggested that former Sweden coach Janne Andersson is the frontrunner to become Nigeria’s new head coach following the resignation of Finidi George earlier in June.
Both Bosso and Ilechukwu have been rumoured as potential candidates for assistant coaching roles under Andersson.
Ladan Bosso, who recently took charge at Bayelsa United and has previously managed the Flying Eagles at various times, dismissed the rumours in an interview with Punch, saying, “As far as I am concerned, all these are fabricated and propaganda by people. If there is anything like that, I am sure I would be called by the policymakers. Nobody in the NFF has called me, and I have never seen where assistant coaches are appointed before the head coach. It’s a rumour as far as I am concerned.”
Fidelis Ilechukwu, the Enugu Rangers coach, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I never can tell what is going on. I am a coach and I am open to the national team job to contribute positively. If they call me, I will be there, but right now my focus is on Enugu Rangers, the CAF Champions League, and the NPFL.”
