Bandits have again unleashed terror on Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing two locals while five were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries.
A resident of the town, Usman Tsafe, told newsmen in Gusau in a telephone conversation that the terrorists struck at 11:21 am on Sunday with sophisticated weapons and started shooting sporadically.
According to him, the bandits were on a reprisal against the State local security outfit, Community Protection Guards, CPD, operatives over the killing of some of their members last week.
โThey came in large number on many motorcycles and started shooting at people. That is how the ravaging bandits killed the two people and five of our people sustained various degrees of gunshot injury. They are now receiving medical attention at Tsafe General Hospital,โ he added.
Tsafe further stated that the situation would have been worse but for the military intervention.
He said troops engaged the bandits, leading to the arrest of four while many fled with gunshot wounds.
He appealed to the federal and Zamfara State governments to deploy more troops to the area to mitigate the activities of the bandits.
According to Usman Tsafe, the number of security operatives in the area is not enough to battle the terrorists, adding that Tsafe Local Government Area has become a colony of banditry.
The area is terrorized by a group led by Ado Aleru.
When contacted, the State police commandโs spokesman, ASP Yazid Abubakar, said the command was waiting for details from the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Tsafe.
โWe are waiting to hear from the DPO in charge of Police Divisional Headquarters I will feed you back with necessary information later,โ he said.
