The Bauchi State Police Command has condemned the lynching of a suspected motorcycle snatcher in Magama-Gumau of Toro Local Government Area of the state on Monday.
It warned that it will not tolerate any act of jungle justice whereby people take the law into their hands, adding that anyone caught in such acts will not be spared.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, condemned the mob action in a statement signed by spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakili.
According to the statement, the CP ordered a discreet investigation into the matter and the possible arrest of the culprits.
Mohammed condemned the act as barbaric and contrary to the countryโs laws, warning Bauchi citizens that his Command will not tolerate such.
He said suspects should be handed over to the police or relevant law enforcement agencies for proper investigation and prosecution, rather than being subjected to such brutality.
OsunDailyNG recalls that the angry mob accused the unidentified man of stealing a motorcycle parked nearby before he was spotted by the owner who raised an alarm.
The young man, whose identity remains unknown, was said to have been seen loitering near a mosque on market day.
