The Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has called on the government to immediately deploy security agents to the troubled areas of the state.
CAN was reacting to the unrest in Donga Local Council Area following the killings of some passengers of an 18-seater bus on Tuesday.
The body stressed the need for the government to, as a matter of urgency, arrest the situation before it escalated.
CAN made its position known on Friday via a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital.
The association, as made known by them, is saddened by the ugly security situation along the Marraraba-Donga road, where almost daily, decomposed dead bodies of young men are found in the bush.
Signed by its state chairman, Rev. (Dr.) Isaiah Magaji Jirapye, CAN argued that it is worrisome that some parents only saw the dead bodies of their children on social media, murdered by unknown people.
CAN called on the government to immediately deploy security agents to the troubled areas before the ugly situation escalates, as people are already being provoked by the gruesome murder of their loved ones and to curtail reprisal attacks.
The association also called on all the traditional rulers in the area to support both government and security agencies with relevant information to track down the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
“As the farming season is about to set in, CAN calls on the warring parties to lay down their arms to allow people to go to their farms to avoid starvation in the near future as everyone depends on food for survival,” the Christian body stated.
CAN also advised youth across the state to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes and misunderstandings.
