The Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, has announced plans to convert Dutse Airport into a cargo airport to enhance international trade and promote economic growth.
The move, he stated, is part of a broader strategy to open up the state to global business opportunities.
Namadi revealed this development in Dutse, stating the state governmentโs commitment to leveraging the potential of the Maigatari livestock market.
He stated that the government is currently engaged in discussions with foreign investors to upgrade the market, which is renowned for its livestock trade.
According to Hajiya Zainab Ringim, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Affairs, the state government is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, as well as other partners, to develop the Maigatari livestock market.
Governor Namadi expressed confidence that these initiatives would not only modernize the market but also expand its reach beyond Nigeriaโs borders.
He mentioned plans to attract investors to develop modern facilities such as cold rooms and modern abattoirs.
The governor assured stakeholders of the governmentโs commitment to transforming the livestock sector.
He stated, โWe have our airport here, and we are trying to see how we can convert this airport to a cargo airport, and when that is done, we will see how we can open our livestock market.
โWe have a lot of investors who will come and invest in terms of cold rooms, in terms of modern abattoirs and when that is done, we will now open Maigatari livestock market beyond the shores of this country.โ
