The Speaker of the House of Representatives says the House will be backing the government on emergency food aid to address the current rising food prices.
The speaker stated this on Thursday during a press briefing held at the National Assembly Complex.
Abbas, flanked by several lawmakers, said the House is aware of the โpains and hardshipโ Nigerians are facing.
โWe acknowledge the pain and suffering of every family. Your cries have not fallen on deaf ears,โ he said. Adding that โfood security is very close to his heart.โ
The Speakerโs press conference is coming amid ongoing protests in some Northern states. Also, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) declared readiness to declare a strike over hardship.
Mr Abbas also used the platform to defend the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila over recent โcyber bullyโ and campaign of โfake newsโ.
He called on relevant security agencies to find those behind the campaign against Mr Gbajabiamila.
It would be recalled that Mr Gbajabiamila recently wrote to the Department of State Security (DSS) about an alleged cyber campaign against him.
Speaking on insecurity, Mr Abbas said the House will soon host a security summit
