Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the insecurity situation in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, is worrisome.
This was as Akpabio declared that the federal capital city is under threat.
He lamented that bandits had infiltrated the FCT while creating cells in Kubwa and Bwari areas.
He spoke before the Senate adjourned its briefing with heads of security agencies to next week.
Akpabio had announced the adjournment due to the absence of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff.
According to Akpabio: โThe situation is worrisome in Agatu, in Taraba, Oyo, Plateau, Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi. We also heard about the infiltration (of bandits) into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in places like Kubwa and Bwari.
โWe have heard reports that they have cells where they are congregating. Weโve also heard the efforts of the security chiefs and the security agencies but reports are becoming worrisome and we decided to invite you to brief us on the efforts to tackle this menace. The Senate is of the view that the FCT is under threat.โ
Recently, bandits had attacked residents of Bwari and Kubwa areas of the FCT.
While some were kidnapped, others were unlucky as they were killed after ransom was paid.
Amid the incident, the minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, had vowed to make Abuja uninhabitable for criminals.
Wike said efforts are ongoing to root out the criminal elements out of Abuja.
