The Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa has constituted the appellate team to handle issues arising from the Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal.
According to Mr Benson Osazuwa, the Registrar, the three-man committee has Justice Emmanuel Ahamioje as chairman, while Justice Nekpen Asemota and Justice Nogi Imoukhuede will serve as members.
NAN recalls that the tribunal had received 18 petitions from aggrieved Labour Party (LP) candidates who participated in the Sept. 2, 2023, local government polls.
Two Tribunals headed by Justices Terry Momodu and Rachel Ogbevoen, after hearing the petitions, dismissed all and upheld the victories of the PDP candidates.
According to the judgments, LP and its candidates could not prove their cases beyond reasonable doubt and had no strong ground to upturn the results declared by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
The aggrieved petitioners had alleged that there were no elections in the 18 local government areas.
