Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has referred to Cristiano Ronaldoโs comments about him as โstrangeโ
OsunDaily News recalls that Ronaldo threw a jab at his club claiming he was โbetrayedโ and also slammed Rooney for being โjealousโ he still plays at a high level.
The two footballers had a fantastic rapport as they have once joined forces to form one of the deadliest English football strike force while they were both at Old Trafford.
Rooney, who ended his England career as a professional footballer in 2017, left Old Trafford to play for a few teams, including Everton and DC United, before hanging up his boots.
In the interview, the five-time Ballon dโOr winner said on Rooney: โProbably [itโs jealousy]. Probably โ because he finished his career in his 30s. Iโm still playing at a high level; Iโm not going to say that Iโm looking better than him, which is true.โ
Following Ronaldoโs remarks, Rooney has responded, telling CNN: โWell, listen, Cristiano Ronaldoโs a fantastic player and, as Iโve said before, he and [Lionel] Messi are the two best players probably to play the game.
โAnd, again, itโs not a criticism. What Iโve said is age comes to all of us, and Cristiano is obviously feeling that and heโs finding it hard to deal with that.
โObviously heโs done an interview thatโs gone global. Bit strange, some of the comments are strange in there but Iโm sure Manchester United will deal with it once theyโve seen the full interview and theyโll take whatever action they need to take.โ
