Karl Toko Ekambi has said a mistake was responsible for the Indomitable Lionsโ defeat to Nigeria.
The striker also stated that it is important for the team to move on from the defeat.
The Indomitable Lions lost 2-0 to the Super Eagles in their Round of 16 encounter at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, on Saturday night.
Rigobert Songโs side dominated possession in the game but couldnโt break down the resolute Nigerian defence.
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen capitalised on an error in the Cameroonian defence to set up Ademola Lookman for the opening goal nine minutes before the break.
Defender Calvin Bassey also cut open the Cameroonian defence to set up Lookman for the second goal in the 90th minute.
Ekambi expressed sadness about the mistake that cost the five-time champions the game.
โThere was a team opposite that was solid. We made a mistake that cost us dearly because I think we were well in the match,โ he was quoted on AllezLesLionsโ X handle.
โWe had the ball, we did good things, and we managed to come out well. We werenโt dangerous but we had control.
โWe made a mistake which cost us the first goal and in a knockout match, at 1-0, we know itโs complicated. We are disappointed; we will move on.โ
