Zamfara State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Bala Mairiga has said he was very optimistic that, with the formation of Community Protection Guards, CPG, the state will be attacking while the terrorists will be defending.
According to him, the State Governor, Dauda Lawal is in a serious synergy with the security chiefs to arrest the ugly development in the state.
He stated this during a chat with newsmen in his office in Gusau, the state capital, saying that the bandits would be forced to relocate from the state due to superior forces.
Mairiga explained that the recent attacks on communities in Zamfara were to force the Governor to succumb to a peace accord and reconciliation which he had sworn never to enter into with the terrorists.
โRight from the inception of this administration, Governor Lawal has repeatedly said his administration has no intention to reconcile with banditsโ, he added.
โWe will engage them on fire for fire operation. Anybody talking of reconciliation with the bandits is on his ownโ
He further noted that with the formation of the Petrol Task Force, PTF, all filling stations in the state will be adequately monitored.
According to him, if the bandits are denied access to fuel, the tension will go down, saying that the terrorists have people that supply them with fuel and other things they need to carry out their nefarious activities in the state.
โBut we will block all channels so that the bandits will be forced to surrender and relocate from the state.โ
He further said the state government has recorded a 40 percent reduction in banditry activities, assuring that the fight against bandits will take another dimension with the formation of Community Protection Guards.
