A 30-year-old man, Stephen Aaron, alleged to have stolen his neighbour’s clothes, on Wednesday appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Aaron, who resides at Kano road in Kaduna metropolis, is standing trial on two counts of burglary and theft.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 7, at 11:10 am.
Leo said that the defendant allegedly entered the house of one Timothy Luka, his neighbour, and stole some clothes, the value of which was unspecified, spread outside to dry and also from his room.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened sections 383 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Raymond Martins, urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Emmanuel said that the surety, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court, has to swear to an affidavit of means.
He subsequently adjourned the case until Jan. 30 for hearing.
