Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has inaugurated a three-man committee to investigate the alleged financial scandal that rocked the state College of Education in Ila-Orangun.
This was contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the three-man panel comprised the Chief of Staff, Kazeem Akinloye, SSG, Teslim Igbalaye, and the Commissioner for Education.
It was gathered that the Provost of the College, Professor Jimoh Afolabi, and the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Peter Babalola, had been trading accusations over the mismanagement of about N200 million belonging to the college.
It was also learned that the money was mismanaged within five months of the establishment of the council by a third party working within the institution.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the governing council, in a letter, ordered the suspension of the provost over alleged mismanagement of funds.
The committee, according to the governor, has two weeks to report their findings.
“I have read various statements and allegations emanating from Ila Orangun College of Education. I have also been briefed about the conflict between the school management and the college governing council. The Committee is hereby directed to call a meeting of both parties.
“The committee is to review all issues, including questions of financial malpractice within the college system and propose a comprehensive accountability and transparency system,” he added.
