Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the passing of a poet, Olanrewaju Adepoju.
A Yoruba poet, writer, artiste and religious leader, Adepoju, died on Sunday at his Idi Orogbo off Ring Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State residence around 7 pm.
He was aged 83.
His son, Adejare Adepoju, broke the news in a brief announcement on Sunday, saying “Baba has gone to rest. Inna lilahi Wa innaa ilaehi Roojiuuna. My Dad, Olanrewaju Adepoju, Rest in Peace”.
Reacting on X on Tuesday, Atiku wrote, “I have just been informed of the passing of legendary poet, Chief Olanrewaju Adepoju.
“Lanre Adepoju was a great compatriot who used his talent in Yoruba poetry, called Ewi, to neutralise bad governance and immoral conducts in the society.
“He was also a Muslim faithful who lived with utmost modesty and spartan discipline.
“I join his family and friends to share in their grief and also pray to Allah (SWT) to grant him Al-Jana Firdaus.”
