The Niger State House of Assembly has appealed to the 25 local government councils to be prudent and transparent in the running of their affairs.
Bello Alhaji Bako, member representing Rijau Constituency and chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, made the call during the ongoing oversight visit to Borgu, Mokwa, Edati, Lavun, Bida, Gbako, Katcha, and Agaie local governments.
He explained that going through the records of various councils, especially Borgu and Mokwa, the committee observed gaps in record-keeping and documentation.
He noted: โFor effective management, the councils should improve on details and uphold best practices of proper documentation for the smooth running of their councils.
โWe use this opportunity to appeal to all local government councils to be prudent and transparent in running the affairs of their various councils.โ
The committee members also commended the efforts and programmes of the council chairmen for a job well done so far.
The chairmen, who each thanked the committee members for the visit, said it has enabled them to identify their challenges and assisted in enlightening and educating them to make corrections and ensure their records are kept in order.
