Point of Sale, POS, agents in Cross River State have appealed to the government to streamline tax payments system in the state to make it easier for them to comply.

Chairman of Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN), John Elogbo, made the appeal at a meeting with officials of the state Internal Revenue Service, IRS.

Last week, there were reports that officials of the IRS were clamping down on POS agents.

Elogbo harped on a the need for a harmonized payment platform, suggesting either monthly or annual payments by his members, rather than daily charges.

He frowned at the imposition of compulsory payment of N100 daily rate by revenue authorities on his members.

The discussion with the IRS revolved around other key points, including mutual support for the governmentโ€™s tax initiatives.

The POS operators expressed their willingness to work together and contribute to tax payments, aligning with practices observed in other states.

Meanwhile, social media reactions to the tax policy varied, with some expressing concerns and others defending the governmentโ€™s position.

Chairman of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS), Prince Edwin Okon said government wanted to streamline the services of POS agents in the state.
