An oil and gas expert and Managing Partner, BBH Consulting, Barr. Ameh Madaki has berated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the reappointment of Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
DAILY POST reports that on Monday, Tinubu approved Kyari’s reappointment, the appointment of Pius Akinyelure (chairman) and seven other members of the NNPLC board.
Reacting to the development, Madaki said Kyari’s reappointment has shown that Tinubu does not know what is happening in the oil and gas sector.
According to him, the reappointment of Kyari is a gross disservice to Nigeria following persistent rot in the industry.
“It is shocking to me. He does not know what is happening in the oil and gas industry, or he doesn’t care! For the level of mismanagement of the industry under Mele Kyari, it is a gross disservice to this country to retain him and most of the Board members and thereby pass a vote of confidence in the gross mismanagement of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry over the years”, he said.
Kyari was appointed as the Group Managing Director of NNPC in June 2019 by ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.
