The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have increased their collaboration on border policing and innovative anti-copyright piracy methods.

Mrs Funmilayo Adewale, the NCC Director of Public Affairs, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja on Friday.

Adewale said that the alliance would reinvigorate measures to stimulate innovation and enhance Nigeriaโ€™s creative economy.

She stated that the agreement was made during a courtesy visit to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, in Abuja by the Director-General of NCC, Dr John Asein.

According to her, the leaders of both agencies recognise the strategic relevance of intellectual property, particularly copyright, to the countryโ€™s economy.

Adewale also bemoaned the harm caused by copyright pirates in the sector.

โ€œThe two agencies are commitment to introduce ICT driven proactive measures and enhance their operations through training and intelligence.

โ€œSharing as envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to check copyright piracy and other illicit activities in the copyright sector,โ€ the NCC spokesperson said.
