A pressure group, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, has commended the leadership of the National Assembly for considering the bill for the establishment of the Youth Development Commission.

The organisation, therefore, appealed to the federal lawmakers to expedite action to ensure its logical conclusion.

This was stated in a communiquรฉ issued at the end of a 1-Day National Youth Summit of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria held at the Nigerian National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

It was signed by the National Speaker of the Youth Assembly, Rt Hon Shuaibu Sani, and forwarded to DAILY POST on Thursday night.

According to the group, the establishment of the Youth Development Commission would go a long way in addressing various issues related to youth development and nation-building.

The youth umbrella body noted that the government alone cannot provide employment opportunities for Nigerian youth and pointed out skill acquisition, vocations, entrepreneurship, and agriculture as the way forward for the countryโ€™s youth.

It called on the government to urgently provide an enabling environment for young people to thrive economically.

โ€œAny nation that fails to accord a premium to its youth population will find it very difficult to tackle security challenges that may likely arise.

โ€œTherefore, the government should wake up to its constitutional responsibilities of addressing issues concerning young people to reduce to the barest minimum the level of instability and uprising in many states of the federation,โ€ the organisation maintained.

On the oil subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria backed the governmentโ€™s step, describing it as apt and timely.

It partly stated: โ€œIt will provide an opportunity for the government to save more resources and provide dividends of democracy to the people. However, it has created lots of intolerable hardship on Nigerian youth. Therefore, we call on the government at all levels to take decisive steps to ameliorate the plight of Nigerian youth.โ€
