Security agencies in Nasarawa State have announced the introduction of โ€˜Stop and Searchโ€™ points across tertiary institutions in the state as a proactive measure to curb the rising incidents of student and lecturer abductions by unknown gunmen.

This is coming after the expanded security meeting held at the Government House in Lafia, where stakeholders discussed strategies to address the growing menace of banditry and kidnappings in the state.

DAILY POST reports that in recent months, Nasarawa State has witnessed a concerning increase in incidents targeting lecturers and students at various tertiary institutions.

Some notable cases include the abduction of four undergraduate students, as well as lecturers from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, and the shooting and kidnapping of students at the Federal University of Lafia.

The expanded security meeting was initiated by Governor Abdullahi Sule to address the alarming trend and find effective solutions to ensure the safety of students, lecturers, and staff in tertiary institutions.

After deliberations, the meeting resolved to introduce โ€˜Stop and Searchโ€™ points in and around the institutions to enhance security and deter criminal activities.

This initiative aims to provide a visible and proactive security presence within the campuses and their surroundings.

Heads of tertiary institutions in Nasarawa State expressed their support and commitment to the new security policy, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of students and staff members.
