The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), on Thursday, in Lagos said it is not engaging in any merger talks with any political party.

DAILY POST recalls that the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar had called on opposition parties to merge in a bid to re-enforce and unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the next election.

Subsequently, reports emerged on Thursday that the Labour Party picked interest in Atikuโ€™s view and is considering merger arrangements with other oppositions.

However, reacting to the report, the partyโ€™s National Publicity Secretary, AbdulRazaq AbdulSalam in a statement, said there was no merger talk with any party.

According to him, those engaging in the merger talks are no longer members of the party.

โ€œNNPP is an independent political group; as such, we stand firm in our commitment to respect all political parties and refuse to merge with any party to combat another.

โ€œOur party values inclusivity and maintains a non-partisan approach.

โ€œIt is crucial to note that those engaging in the merger talk have been expelled from NNPP, and the party currently faces internal conflicts pending court resolution.

โ€œUntil proven otherwise, these internal matters take precedence,โ€ the NNPP spokesman said.
