The Benue State House of Assembly has decried the decayed and poor facilities at the state-owned Benue State University Teaching Hospital University (BSUTH), Makurdi.
The House Committee on Health bemoaned the state of medical equipment and amenities during the tenure of the former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of BSUTH, Dr Terlumun Swende.
The Chairman of the Committee and member representing Kwande State Constituency, Pharm Thomas Dugeri, voiced his concerns during an oversight function visit to the new CMD, Dr Stephen Hwande.
Dugeri stated that the level of deterioration under Dr Swendeโs leadership was monumental and unpardonable.
He also noted that during one of the committeeโs visits to the institution, they observed issues such as manpower shortages, equipment deficiencies, water supply problems, and electricity challenges.
โWe had demanded for the MoU and the partners for the radiology and the medical laboratory.
โBut we are seeing things in a different dimension now. How did drugs worth over 200 million waste? How did these drugs come into the hospital? Even it had been given as a donation, it would have taken the hospital to heights.โ
