Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has pledged full support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), assuring that his administration will not take the issue of drug abuse lightly.

A statement issued by the governorโ€™s spokesman, Suleiman Bala Idris, indicated that the agency has raised significant concerns about the challenges itโ€™s facing in the fight against drug abuse in the state.

According to the statement, the governor reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the agency to ensure a drug-free state.

Responding to the demands of the agency, Governor Lawal explained that the need to fight drug abuse in the state has become necessary, promising to build a drug-free society across all local government areas of the state.

โ€œThe state government requires a mutual understanding with the NDLEA in tackling the menace of drug abuse. We will also provide all necessary support needed to curb drug smuggling into the state,โ€ the governor added.

โ€œWrong usage of drugs is a significant factor contributing to the ongoing insecurity in the state. As many of the bandits operate under the influence of drugs, it is our responsibility to find a lasting solution to the issue.โ€

The governor further promised to renovate the Gusau rehabilitation centre, provide proper accommodation and offices for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and supply the agencyโ€™s officers with operational vehicles for efficient operations.

The State Commander of the NDLEA, Bamidele Amos Segun, and his management team paid a courtesy call on the governor at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital on Tuesday.

He informed the governor of the agencyโ€™s role in curtailing drug abuse and smuggling in the state.

โ€œI am honored to be in your presence today and grateful to the Almighty God who blessed Zamfara State with a person like you.

โ€œBased on what we have observed, it appears that under your watch, Zamfara State is making progress towards complete recovery. As members of the NDLEA, we are committed to providing our utmost support to your government in fulfilling our constitutional duty of reducing drug abuse to the minimum,โ€ he stated.
