Justice Muhammad Dattijo, on Friday, lamented why there is no representation of South-East and North-Central justices in the Supreme Court Bench.
Dattijo noted that the absence of representatives of the two geo-political zones in the Supreme Court is dangerous to equitable justice delivery in the country.
He made his stance known in his speech at a valedictory court session, which was held in his honour at the Supreme Court to mark his retirement.
He attained his statutory retirement age of 70 years.
He said, โWe are in an election season where the Election Tribunals and appellate courts are inundated with all manner of petitions and appeals.
โThe Supreme Court is the final court in presidential, governorship and national assembly election appeals.
โYet, there are only 10 justices left to determine these matters.
โIt portends great danger for the countryโs democracy to have the South-East and North-Central regions not represented on the bench of the Supreme Court of Nigeriaโ.
