Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, has promised that the State would always collaborate with security agencies for adequate protection of lives and property of the citizens.

Kanu stated this in his office in Umuahia while recieving the Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and his team who paid him a courtesy visit.

The information Commissioner, who pledged the commitment of his ministry to give the police needed support and useful information, urged Abia residents to disregard the growing allegations about stolen or missing genitals.

He advised the people to report suspected case of missing genitals to any nearby police station for investigations, rather than taking laws into their hands.

In his speech, Onwuemelie, who described information as strategic to governance, reiterated the need for partnership between the police and Abia State Ministry of Information in protecting the interests of the people.

According to him, the collaboration became pertinent in ensuring that accurate information is disseminated in the State.

While expressing dismay at the rate of fake news in the nation, including reports on missing genitals, he said it was a worrisome situation.

He also described as barbaric the act of civilised persons taking laws into their hands, pointing out that most people leverage on that to unduly visit terror or victimize their perceived enemies.

Also speaking, the acting Director-General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, BCA, Hyacinth Okoli, expressed worry at the rate of fake news in the society but pointed out that partnership between government information organizations and security agencies would help in adequate security.
