Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi has said his heart trembles whenever the state is mentioned as one of the poverty-stricken states in the country.
The governor stated this on Wednesday at the official flag-off ceremony of the 1,500 Youth Empowerment Program, in Dutse, the state capital.
He said to make a significant investment in the youth of Jigawa State, each of the 1,500 program beneficiaries was provided with N50,000 in capital.
Namadi explained that the capital injection is aimed at employing young individuals to embark on entrepreneurial journeys and create sustainable economic opportunities for themselves and their communities.
He reiterated the governmentโs commitment to take the state to the next level through job creation to boost the socio-economic situation of the stateโs residents.
โWhenever I hear my state (Jigawa) is mentioned among the states with high poverty rates my heart is trembling,โ he said.
Namadi further explained that his administration is committed to boosting the socio-economic development of the state through the introduction of various programs and policies by the Jigawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment and Employment.
โI have also taken the opportunity to launch a website for registering our youth and the kind of jobs they want to do, this includes business, trade, public service, and any other legal means of livelihood to give equal opportunity to all citizens irrespective of party or society difference,โ he added.
