The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed commitment toward the full digitization of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
He also said that he is committed to the implementation of the Digital Switch Over being handled by the National Broadcasting Commission.
The minister was speaking during a familiarization visit to parastatals under his ministry.
โWe all know the role that the NTA has played in shaping the information and entertainment landscape of our nation for decades, breaking news of national importance, showcasing our rich cultural heritage, showing diversity, and providing platforms for the finest talents that are in and out of this country,โ he noted.
He noted that the role of media organizations like the NTA cannot be overemphasized and commended their commitment to delivering accurate, reliable, and balanced news, which over the years has helped in nurturing, informing, and engaging the citizenry.
The Minister stated that the issue of value reorientation is at the core of the Ministryโs mandate; as such, the diverse reach and timely influence of the NTA will be utilized to brand and promote the civic and moral reawakening required to put our country firmly on the path of sustainable growth and development.
โI am pleased with your advancement in terms of digitization and modernization, and one of my ambitions is to ensure the modernization of the public information platforms under my oversight, of which NTA is the most prominent.
โI want to assure you that what is going to be my focus is this process of digitization, which has to be taken to a logical conclusion,โ he further explained.
Idris disclosed that, as part of his legacy, he wants to see an NTA that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the worldโs most respected broadcasting organizations.

He assured the NTA that he would do everything possible to mobilize the resources that are required for its smooth operation.
On the part of the NBC, the Minister committed to working closely with the commission to foster an environment that promotes media freedom, the dissemination of accurate and unbiased information, and technological innovation.
He emphasized that the broadcasting sector in Nigeria is not only targeted at meeting international standards but also serving as a catalyst for national development.
โI am aware that the Digital Switch Over (DSO), a flagship project under the supervision of NBC, has the potential to ensure the highest levels of fidelity in broadcasting, deepen digital penetration, create multiple channels for programming, and unleash the creative abilities of our youths,โ said the Minister, who promised that he would give the DSO all the seriousness it demands.
The Director General of the NTA, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, and the Managing Director of NBC, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, received the Minister in their various organizations and conducted him around their facilities.
