The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, says Nigeria will surmount its economic challenges.
The Speakerโs message comes as Nigeria marks its 63rd Independence Anniversary on Sunday.
Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
While calling on fellow citizens and compatriots to keep hope in the country alive, the Speaker said doomsayers and pessimists would soon be disappointed.
Despite soaring inflation, crumbling naira, energy crisis and other economic challenges facing Nigeria, the Speaker noted that the country will be great again.
Abbas reiterated his appeal to organized labour under the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, to shelve the plan to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday over welfare issues.
He said embarking on a nationwide indefinite strike would do the country no good, as it would, instead, only aggravate the situation.
He urged organized labour to reason with the Federal Government and put the strike on hold, so that all issues would be resolved amicably.
