Some dignitaries and government officials were present at a special court session on Monday to mark the beginning of the 2023/2024 legal year of the Court of Appeal.
Present at the court session were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; the Minster of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); and former Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi, SAN.
The session had in attendance the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; retired Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, Justices of the Court of Appeal, and Heads of Courts.
Others are the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Oluwole Oke; President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau; and Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).
The legal year ceremony is a long-established tradition ushering in the new legal year and also provides an opportunity for justices to reflect on the successes and challenges of the previous year, review them, and explore what lies ahead.
