The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday confirmed the collapse of a three-storey building in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
According to information made available by the NEMA territorial coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the building located at No. 14 Ikpoh Street Surulere collapsed around 10 pm on Friday night.
The NEMA statement added that there was no casualty in the collapse.
An occupant of the building, Mr Gervase Anyanwu, who is a businessman, told newsmen that all the occupants were able to run out of the building before it came down completely.
He narrated that a loud sound was heard from one of the wings of the building before it came down.
โImmediately we heard the sound, all the occupants of the building gathered at the muster point, before evacuating for safety.
โNo casualty was recorded,โ Anyanwu said.
Anyanwu added that it was simply by the grace of God that all the occupants were able to escape unhurt.
Another occupant told newsmen that the building had shown serious signs of distress before it eventually collapsed on Friday.
As at the time of this report, excavation of the rubbles from the building was yet to commence, but relevant government agencies and emergency respondents were already on site.
