Tajudeen Baruwa has been sworn in as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Baruwa was inauguratedĀ alongside other executive members during the 10th National Quadrennial Delegate Conference of the Union held on Thursday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
In his inaugural speech, Baruwa said the union, under his leadership, is ready to support President Bola Tinubuās administration to ensure the countryās economy becomes better.
He assured that the union would always ensure the safety of commuters and their goods, and its members would be of good behaviour across the country.
The NURTW Chairman asserted that the union through the transportation sector would add to the federal governmentās efforts at achieving economic recovery.
He said: āNURTW members would be working closely with the president through the transportation sector to ensure the countryās economy becomes better and address Nigeriansā concerns, irrespective of the location they may be.
āThe conference in session after critically assessing Tinubuās administration, though less than three months in office, expressed satisfaction with the steps taken so far towards revamping the economy of the country for the overall benefit of the people.
āDue to this, we expressed our total support for his administrationās policies and programmes with the belief that if transparently implemented, it will definitely reduce the hardship encountered by the masses.ā
The NURTW president said his leadership of the union would strengthen the cooperation with the police to ensure law and order are adhered to across parks and garages in the country.
He added that other stakeholders would also be parleyed to ensure the countryās transportation sector becomes better.
Baruwa also commended the Governor of Nasarawa, Abdullahi Sule, for providing a conducive atmosphere for the union to hold its conference.
