South African singer, Tyla has made history as the first-ever winner of the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys.
Tylaโs โWaterโ defeated songs by Nigerian singers: Davidoโs โUnavailable,โ Asakeโs โAmapiano,โ Burna Boyโs โCity Boys,โ and Ayra Starrโs โRushโ to clinch the award.
The 22-year-old has now become the youngest African to win a Grammy.
Meanwhile, Davidoโs โTimelessโ and Burna Boyโs โI Told Themโ also lost the Best Global Music Album award to Shaktiโs โThis Moment.โ
Similarly, Davidoโs โFeelโ and Burna Boyโs โAloneโ lost the Best Global Music Performance to โPashtoโ by Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain.
This means no Nigerian won an award at the 66th Grammys.
