Following the announcement of the nominees for the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards, the trio of Nigerian singers, Burna Boy, Olamide and Ayra Starr have set new records.

Burna Boy, who bagged four nominations at the 66th Grammys, officially becomes the Nigerian artist with the most nominations in the history of the award (10).

He also becomes the first Nigerian artist to earn a Grammy nomination in 5 consecutive years (2019-2023).

Burna Boyโ€™s โ€˜Sittinโ€™ On Top of The Worldโ€™ becomes the first African song to earn a nomination in the Rap category. It was nominated in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.

The song will contest the gong with Doja Catโ€™s โ€˜Attentionโ€™, Drake & 21 Savageโ€™s โ€˜Spin Bout Uโ€™, SZAโ€™s โ€˜Lowโ€™, and Lil Durk and J. Coleโ€™s โ€˜All My Life.โ€™

Meanwhile, Olamide has made history as the first Nigerian rapper to bag a Grammy nomination. His collaborative song with Asake, โ€˜Amapianoโ€™ was nominated in the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.

โ€˜Amapianoโ€™ will contest the award with Davidoโ€™s โ€˜Unavailableโ€™, Ayra Starrโ€™s โ€˜Rushโ€™ Burna Boyโ€™s โ€˜City Boysโ€™, and Tylaโ€™s โ€˜Water.โ€™

Similarly, 21-year-old Ayra Starr has made history as the youngest Nigerian to bag a Grammy nomination. Her hit song โ€˜Rushโ€™ was nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.
