Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is not afraid of the speculated imminent merger between some opposition parties.
OsunDailyNG reports that Sule, during an interviewย on Channels Televisionโs โPolitics Todayโ programme, on Wednesday, expressed optimism that the APC will perform wonderfully in the next two years to win the 2027 election.
According to Sule, an election is not necessarily at the federal level, noting that state governors are expected to drive performance, as President Bola Tinubu had emphasised during their meeting last December.
He said, โWhat we are going to do in the next two years will determine the direction of our party, but I believe we are going to perform in the next two years wonderfully. Once we are able to do that, I donโt think the party needs to fear any merger.
โWith due respect, I am not scared. I have said, with due respect, that the performance of the party depends on the performance not only at the central but also at the various state levels.
โElections are not necessarily held only at the federal; elections are held at the various states, at the various states, at the various units. So, if you go and look at the performances of the governors that we are having, you canโt say that you will be scared.
โSometimes, we are just looking at policies and we are looking at the centre, what the centre is doing. But election is not held at the centre. Elections are held at the state, at the local government, at the development areas, you know, all those kind of places, at the units. And thatโs why Mr. President, during our lunch on the 1st of December, said that โyou the governors, you are the ones to drive development; you are the ones to do agriculture, I am expecting skills acquisition from you, mining, I am expecting performance from youโ. So, he (President Tinubu) is sending it back to the states. Thatโs the way I am looking at it.โ
