The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas says the current administration cannot afford to fail Nigerians.
Abbas made the statements during President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2024 appropriation bill.
He stated that it was a well-known reality that millions of citizens were going through really difficult times.
He said, “For this reason, they also look to the Tinubu-led government to provide quick and sustainable solutions.”
According to him, the President’s antecedents and his track record in government inspire a lot of faith in Nigerians, and he cannot afford to fail Nigerians.
He said, “If anyone can change the rot and chart a new course for Nigeria, it is you.
“I have no doubt whatsoever that we can measure up to the expectations of Nigerians through your visionary leadership and the commitment of the National Assembly.”
He stated that the budget presented to lawmakers should not be viewed as merely a financial document but as a representation of united determination to address the most pressing needs of the long-suffering citizens.
He noted that the 2024 Budget should focus on social welfare measures to assist in alleviating poverty and inequality to foster economic growth and development.
