Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no standing structure in his state.
Speaking on Monday during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Umahi said the opposition party is “dead and buried” in the South East state.
The Ebonyi governor added that the major opposition party cannot be reckoned with in the political discussion in the state and cannot be considered as a serious party.
He said: “Every state is built on the performances of the governor. I have performed and it’s not about the party, it’s about the leadership of the state.
“There is no PDP in Ebonyi state, and if you’ve witnessed our programmes of late, you’d have noticed the number of people that came out.
“So, the PDP should not even talk. They are not even second in ranking in Ebonyi state. So there’s nothing like structure.”
The Ebonyi governor said the delay in the commencement of the APC’s presidential campaign will not hurt the party’s chances at the polls.
“We have many months to elections and we have many months to campaign,” he said.
“The first to start does not translate to the first to finish. So, the APC is a bank and they are coming up with programmes. It will soon happen.”

Umahi also declared that the early campaigns of the Labour Party do not automatically guarantee victory for the party in the 2023 polls.
This is as he boasted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will overtake the LP when the ruling party commences its rallies and mobilisation nationwide.
He stated this when he was asked about the seeming delay in the commencement of the APC presidential campaigns while the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rolled out some programmes including rallies in major cities.
Defending the delay from APC, Umahi said it is nothing to worry about and there is still enough time to run credible campaigns.
He said: “We have many months to elections and we have many months to campaign. The first to start does not translate to the first to finish. So, the APC is a bank and they are coming up with programmes. It will soon happen.”
He added that the APC holds the edge over other parties in terms of “mass mobilisation, in terms of acceptability”.
