The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has slammed Senator Dino Melaye for accusing him of splitting the votes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

OsunDaily News reports that in a statement on Saturday, Melaye, who accused Peter Obiโ€™s supporters known as โ€˜Obidientsโ€™ of working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, urged the former Anambra State governor to โ€œcome back homeโ€ to support Atiku in order to stop the continuation of APC in government.

The former lawmaker claimed that Peter Obi would not win the presidential election because the Labour Party does not have the structure to do so.

While stating that Obi lacks the capacity to unite Nigeria, he noted that the Labour Party has only 30 senatorial candidates as against the 109 senatorial seats.

Reacting through the spokesman of his presidential campaign council, Yunusa Tanko, Peter Obi said it was the PDP presidential candidate who is desperately looking for a support base.

According to the LP presidential candidate,ย his political party are in every part of Nigeria, adding that he doesnโ€™t need to struggle for a base.

Yunusa said Nigerians are looking for real change, and have seen it in the labour party and their presidential candidate.

โ€œWe are not looking for a base. It is Atiku that is struggling for a base. Labour Party and Peter Obi supporters are in every part of Nigeria so, we donโ€™t need to struggle with anyone for structure or base,โ€ Tanko said.

Tanko further noted that the party is ready for the 2023 polls and would โ€œcontinue to mobilise Nigerians to vote for Peter Obi and Labour Party for a better future.โ€
