Sixteen medical graduates of Igbinedion University, Okada, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, have been inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN.

OsunDailyNG reports that 16 medical graduates were inducted into the council at the 18th induction ceremony of medical students since the establishment of the institution.

Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, the registrar of MDCN, who administered the oath to the new medical doctors, charged them to keep to the tenets of integrity and professionalism and exercise caution at all times.

Sanusi, represented by Dr Henry Okwukwenye, advised the doctors not to be worried about the rigours of the profession, as they are surmountable through professionalism and hard work.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, said the ceremony was part of the institutionโ€™s efforts to enhance the healthcare delivery system in the country.

Ezemonye also added that the ceremony was a momentous occasion, marking years of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and transformation on the part of the doctors.

The Vice Chancellor, who described the new doctors as diligent, noted that they have compassion and are ready to serve humanity.

Ezemonye, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Raphael Adeghe, disclosed that the first batch of doctors of the same set was inducted in October 2023.

He added that the institution was not oblivious to the current challenges facing the healthcare delivery system in the country.

He listed the challenges as including a shortage of skilled healthcare professionals such as medical doctors, nurses, and other supporting staff.

โ€As always, our university is committed to partnering with the Medical Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, in its current drive to expand access to medical training as a response to mitigating some of those challenges.

โ€There is no gainsaying that the field of medicine is dynamic and ever-evolving. I therefore urge you to embrace the opportunity for continuous learning and growth,โ€ he said.
