No fewer than eleven (11) individuals were said to have been killed in a recent assault on several communities in Nyiev-ya, located in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, by unknown gunmen.

Reports obtained by OsunDailyNG indicate that the event occurred on December 25, during Christmas celebrations with families.

A resident who wished to remain unnamedย verified the incident to reporters on Thursday stating that they received an urgent alert indicating that Nyiev-ya was being attacked.

โ€œThe terrorist herders came this afternoon (December 25), and invaded Ubutu and GSS Anwase, killing and burning houses.

โ€œDaniel Jamโ€™s son was killed by the terrorists. Pray for our community for Godโ€™s and Government intervention,โ€ Daily Post quoted the individual saying.

While the killing was going on in the Tse Azege community, another resident also disclosed that an attack was also ongoing in Ityuluv, in the Nyiev-ya community.

โ€œIf there is anything the chairman or the government will do, let it be fast. The news coming from Kwande is still not pleasant.

โ€œThe terrorist herders have continued with their onslaught against our people today (December 26),โ€ he said.

The President General of Mzough U Tiv Worldwide, Iorbee Ihagh, a resident of Kwande LGA, reported that the local community leader verified the occurrence of the attack.

He characterized the assault as unwarranted and stated that numerous individuals lost their lives on Christmas Day.

โ€œ11 people were reportedly killed during the attack on Kwande LGA yesterday. The attack was unprovoked but the attackers who were herdsmen, invaded the communities and attacked the people.

โ€œMany are still missing. Leaders of the affected communities have reported the attack at the police station,โ€ he said.

Another local, Solomon Amande, whose community was affected, confirmed the death of 11 persons, saying armed herders and militia groups carried out the killings.

Responding to the development, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, said she had no information on the incident.
